The Creative Alliance of New Orleans is pleased to announce its 5th Annual Art Home Tour on December 5, 2015. The tour will span two metro parishes, from the Holy Cross neighborhood of the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, downriver to Poydras, Louisiana.
The “Downriver Art Home Tour and Sale,” coming just weeks before Christmas, will include artworks, antiques, and harvest foods for sale. Ten sites on the tour will include artists’ studios, homes with art collections, galleries, and the River House I Crevasse 22 located at a bucolic site adjacent to the levee of the Mississippi River in Poydras, LA.
The tour begins at the Art House on the Levee in Holy Cross, the studio and gallery of Robert Tannen and Jeanne Nathan, where works by Tannen and other artists will be on view and for sale. The tour continues in Holy Cross with stops at the studios of artists Diego Larguia and Bruce Davenport.
It continues to the Studio Inferno gallery and glass studio of Mitchell Gaudet, and the studio of Erica Larkin Gaudet, both in Old Arabi, which just got approved as a new cultural district. Other artists included in Arabi are Mary Jane Parker, Gary Oaks, and Hayden Reilly.
Also on the tour are the studio of metalwork artist Luis Colmenares in Chalmette and the Meraux Foundation at the Docville Farm in Violet.
The tour ends at the River House I Crevasse 22 in Poydras. On view at the River House are a photography exhibition about the “Spirit of the People of St. Bernard,” and “Land-Scapes,” including works about the beauty and risks of nature.
A Country Market of art works, antiques, and harvest foods, both fresh and prepared, will be set up outside of the River House, adjacent to the Crevasse 22 Sculpture Garden, which features environmentally themed works by regional sculptors.
At the conclusion of the tour the Los Islenos Christmas Extravaganza begins at 5:00 pm at the Los Islenos Museum on Bayou Road, five minutes from the River House I Crevasse 22, with a musical celebration of the season and a traditional bonfire
The Downriver Art Home Tour and Sale begins at 10:00 am, continuing until 5:00 pm. Tickets and admission to the events are free, though donations are gratefully accepted. For each donation of $10 guests will receive a custom designed CANO tote bag. Tickets may be reserved in advance on eventbrite through http://cano-la.org.
